Governor Mutfwang Sympathizes with Victims of Terminus Market Fire, Pledges Support and Structural Reforms

The Plateau State Governor His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has extended heartfelt condolences to victims of the recent fire outbreak at the makeshift market of Terminus area in Jos North Local Government Area. The inferno, which ravaged several shops and stalls, has left many traders counting their losses and struggling to restart their businesses.
Governor Mutfwang, who visited the scene to assess the damage and commiserate with those affected, described the incident as a devastating blow to families and the local economy. He revealed that initial reports from security agencies suggest the fire was likely caused by an electrical spark, worsened by the haphazard construction of makeshift stalls around the already-damaged Jos Main Market.
“It is painful that a moment of carelessness or negligence could lead to such devastating consequences,” the governor said. “This fire has brought about untold hardship to many families already grappling with economic challenges.”
In a show of compassion and commitment, Governor Mutfwang assured the victims that the government would not abandon them. He pledged to work closely with the Jos North Local Government Council and the traders’ union to provide immediate relief and long-term support aimed at helping them recover their livelihoods.
“I want to sincerely commiserate with all the traders who lost their goods,” he said. “It is a huge setback, but I assure you that the government will explore ways to support you in rebuilding and restarting your businesses.”
Beyond the emergency response, the governor emphasized the need for a more sustainable solution to market operations in Jos. He announced plans to restructure and relocate vulnerable markets to safer and better-organized environments, ensuring the safety of lives and property.
“Our administration is committed to ensuring that our people thrive and not slide deeper into poverty,” Governor Mutfwang stated. “We will not fold our arms. We are considering safer, well-planned markets across the city, and you will be informed of government’s decisions as soon as consultations are concluded.”
He concluded by assuring residents that the state government will take definitive steps to rehabilitate and secure the affected site, promising that every decision taken will reflect the collective interest of Plateau citizens.
As victims begin the difficult task of rebuilding, the governor’s visit and assurances have brought a glimmer of hope in the wake of the tragic loss.
