Nigeria University, Conducts Orientation for New Students

The Department of Mass Communication at Plateau State University, Bokkos, recently held an informative orientation program for its newly admitted students, aimed at providing them with essential insights for achieving academic success. The event took place at the School of Social Sciences Auditorium (SSA) at 10:30 AM and featured an engaging gathering of university officials, faculty members, and support staff dedicated to supporting the students throughout their academic journey.
The primary objective of the orientation was to introduce students to the university’s academic framework, policies, and expectations, facilitating a smooth transition into university life. Distinguished guests included the Registrar of the University, Mr. Ayuba F. Yakubu; the Director of Linkages, Associate Professor Dewan Danjuma; the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Associate Professor Dashol Usman Ishaya; the Head of the General Studies Department, Associate Professor Priscilla Marcus; and the Department’s Examination Officer, Mr. Lohnan Moses, among others.
In his keynote address, Associate Professor Andrew Dewan encouraged students to embrace diligence and dedication, highlighting that their personal success would not only benefit them but also honor their families and the university. The Registrar, Mr. Ayuba F. Yakubu, underlined the importance of discipline and commitment to the institution’s values.
Associate Professor Priscilla Marcus emphasized the value of maintaining good conduct and warned against examination malpractice, reinforcing that graduates must be exemplars of character and knowledge. The Examination Officer, Mr. Lohnan Moses, shared valuable insights on tracking academic performance, explaining how students can monitor their Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and motivating them to aspire to excellence.
Mr. Bernard Diesuk, a lecturer in the department, introduced students to their level coordinators, whose roles included offering academic guidance. Representatives from various university units—including ICT, the Library, the School Clinic, Students’ Affairs, and the Security Unit—provided crucial information about accessing university resources effectively.
After the event, David, one of the newly admitted students, expressed his enthusiasm and appreciation for the orientation. He described the experience as enlightening and beneficial, noting that it clarified how to successfully navigate university life.
The orientation program concluded positively, leaving students inspired and better equipped for their academic endeavors at Plateau State University, Bokkos. With a solid foundation established by the faculty and administrators, the new students are now well-prepared to make the most of their university experience.
