Thousands of Christians March for Peaceful Protest in Plateau State Over Killings

In a powerful demonstration of unity and grief, thousands of Christians from across Plateau State, Nigeria, staged a peaceful protest in Jos, the state capital, on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025.
The peace walk, organized by the Plateau State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in collaboration with the Church Denominational Leaders Forum, was held in response to the recent wave of violent attacks in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas.
Tagged “Enough is Enough,” the march marks the second major peace walk organized by Christians in the state to decry the continued killings by fulani and demand urgent action from the government.
Participants, dressed in black, white, and red—symbolizing mourning, peace, and resilience—marched through major streets of Jos holding placards bearing messages like “Stop the Killings,” “Justice for Bokkos and Bassa,” and “We Demand Security and Accountability.”
The peaceful procession began with prayers and worship at the Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTV) premises, led by senior church leaders. From there, the marchers proceeded to the Plateau State Government House, where the President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo, presented a formal letter to Governor Caleb Mutfwang. The letter, addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urged the Federal Government to take swift and decisive steps to restore peace and security in Plateau State and across Nigeria.
Speaking at the Government House, Rev. Dr.Amos Mohzo expressed deep concern over the continued silence and inaction of the Federal Government in the face of recurring violence. “This peace walk is not just about Plateau State; it is a cry from the heart of every Nigerian who is tired of burying innocent loved ones. We demand peace, justice, and security,” he said.
In his response, Governor Caleb Mutfwang commended the Christian community for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the march. He assured the leaders and protesters of his commitment to conveying their message to the President and working tirelessly to ensure peace returns to the state.
Other church leaders emphasized the importance of national unity, urging Nigerians of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds to join hands in prayer, advocacy, and action for peace.
The march concluded at Secretariat Junction, where a solemn moment of silence was observed in honor of the victims of recent attacks. Security agencies maintained a visible presence throughout the march, ensuring a peaceful and incident-free event.
The Christian community in Plateau State remains resolute, vowing to continue advocating for justice and peace until the killings end and lasting security is achieved across the region.
